 500+ Workbooks, 20 Topics, 4 Levels

Over 500 workbooks are grouped into 4 Ability Levels and target 20 different topics.

Select the level which best fits each student’s individual learning needs, regardless of his or her chronological age.

Level One

Our resources begin at Level One – suitable for students of any age who are just able to grasp a pencil and make simple scribbles on the page, and who are able to communicate at a very basic level using a few simple words or gestures.  Over 1,500+ pages of resources are available to support educators in the development of fine motor skills, receptive and expressive communication skills, pre-emergent literacy and numeracy skills, concept formation, spatial awareness, motor memory, mid-line crossover, and much, much more.

Level Two

Level Two continues this resource support, with another 1,500+ pages – suitable for students of any age who are functioning an academic level typically associated with early elementary or primary school.  Additional Workbooks added at this level include critical thinking skills, personal development and protective behaviours, processing speed and accuracy, phonemic awareness and much more.  Functional Literacy and Numeracy are supported through spiral curriculum workbooks which teach new concepts in a very gradual progression, with frequent re-visits to concepts previously learned.   A constant emphasis on applying previously learned skills in novel situations helps to students reinforce and apply key concepts.

Level Three

Level Three provides another 1,000+ pages suitable for students of any age whose functional academic skills are typically associated with middle elementary or primary school.  Almost all topics from Level Two are continued in Level Three.  This depth of resources ensures that regardless of each student’s rate of learning, their teachers will have constant access to stimulating, vibrant and novel resources appropriate to their individual needs.

Level Four

Level Four provides another 3,000+ pages suitable for students whose functional academic skills are typically associated with upper elementary or junior high school.  Even at this level, all Workbooks remain highly visual, with highly adapted tasks suitable for students with ongoing difficulties forming and applying abstract concepts.  Many of the Workbooks focus on specific topics commonly found in mainstream curriculum.  This allows students to participate to the fullest extent in mainstream activities, but then complete adapted tasks on the same topic at a level suitable to their needs.  Level Four is the highest academic level that Precision Academics targets.   Once students are able to complete Level Four Workbooks with relative independence, then they are quite able to use many of the hundreds of other excellent resources already available to support their learning needs.

General Guidelines for using Precision Academics Workbooks

·         Keep your sessions short, frequent and very positive.  Encourage your student to concentrate very closely on key visual and auditory information.

·         Precision Academics© Workbooks provide unlimited opportunities for skill development, success and increased self-confidence in all aspects of the curriculum, and can be used as one important component of each student’s educational program.

·         The many brightly coloured Workbooks contain interactive, highly motivating activities linked to both Mainstream and Life Skills Outcomes.

·         Encourage as much detail in spoken language as possible.  Language skills greatly enhance all aspects of learning.  Actively teach your student to develop his or her skills using a range of strategies.  Adapt each page to your student’s individual needs.

·         Actively teach the student to listen carefully, complete all elements of each task and check their own work.

·         Provide as much support as is needed to achieve 100% on every page.  Praise often and sincerely.  Cover the page with positive marks, check marks, “happy faces”, messages of success etc.  Encourage your student to do the same.

·         High levels of positive feedback are essential to promoting self-esteem and a positive attitude towards learning.  As each page is complete, the helper or student marks the page with a brightly coloured 100%.  This explicitly teaches the student to aim for mastery in his or her learning. As little attention as possible is paid to errors in work.

·         Praise and acknowledgement are given for every task, but when mistakes are encountered, the student is simply asked to “Check this one please” before it is marked.  Then as little or as much support as necessary is given to ensure that the work is completed correctly.

·         Once this is done, the work is brightly ticked and the page is marked at 100%.  Do not be tempted to skip this important step.  Use your own unique style to encourage the highest possible success from your students.

·         At the end of each workbook, you will find one or more Assessment and Work Sample page(s).  The Assessment section identifies selected Curriculum Outcomes linked to the student’s stage of learning.  The Outcomes are worded in very general terms and represent the long term goals you are working towards.

·         Select Mainstream or Life Skills Outcomes as appropriate, or insert your own Outcomes if necessary.  The Indicators identify very specific expectations that are linked directly to tasks the student has been working on throughout each workbook.

·         Helpers and their students work together to evaluate the student’s level of mastery using the simple 1 to 5 guidelines (essentially 1 means that the student requires total support to complete Indicator whereas 5 means the work was completed with confidence and independence).

·         The scores are then totalled and the result is used to guide your decision about which workbook to go to next.  The student then completes a Work Sample.

·         Once completed, the Assessment and Work Sample page(s) are  removed from the Workbook and placed on the student’s Progress File. Attach additional Work Samples if desired.

·         These documents provide simple, valuable and essential information documenting the student’s progress towards his or her learning goals.

·         These documents can be reviewed at Individual Education Plans and used for Progress Assessment.

How can Precision Academics help your students?

The Precision Academics Resource Bank contains hundreds of workbooks, and thousands of pages of activities, suitable for students with the widest possible range of learning needs.

Our resources and activities are designed to stimulate each student to develop to their fullest potential, through achieving success using resources designed to meet individual needs.

Our Resource Bank contains resources which are suitable for both secular and Christian faith based curricula, allowing schools and families to select and use the resources which best suit their needs.

Placement and Progress:

Each student begins by completing a quick and simple criterion based assessment in Functional Literacy and Numeracy.  A simple key directs teachers and families to the most appropriate starting place – from Level One to Four.  Multiple versions of the test allow teachers and families to track and evaluate progress over time.  These tests can be easily administered by Parents or Educational Assistants, if required.

This Placement and Progress Manual allows an easy overview of each student’s progress and accomplishments over time.  Record the date each workbook is completed, as well as test scores.

Links to Curriculum Outcomes and Individual Education Program Plans (IEP’s)

Every Workbooks contains links to 3 or 5 standard curriculum outcomes and contains specific indicators to show concepts covered (“Is able to recognise the tallest of 3 objects”; “Is able to name the 5 vowels”; “Identifies the planets of our solar system”).  The student’s level of independence when achieving these outcomes is also recorded, using a simple scale of 1 to 5 (where 5 represents full independence).

A Work Sample is also included for each of the 400+ Workbooks.  These two pages (Outcomes, Indicators, Level of Independence and Work Sample) are found in the last two pages of each Workbook.

Each record takes only a couple of minutes to complete and is removed from the Workbook and kept as a permanent record of the student’s progress.

These pages provide an outstanding reference for accountability, ensuring each student’s progress can be easily and effortlessly linked to their individual education plan.

Ways to use the Precision Academics Resource Bank:

The 6,000 pages of resources are arranged into 400+ Workbooks.  Each Workbook can be printed in whole or in part, as often as desired.  Pages can be offered in any combination, allowing educators unlimited flexibility to meet each student’s individual learning needs.

Resources are never wasted, as they are only printed on an “as needs” basis.

We recommend using the cheapest possible printer and cartridge options, printing on “high speed, economy” and “2 pages per page” setting.

Many of the resources can be left directly on the computer screen, if preferred, saving the cost of printing altogether.

The Precision Academics Resource Bank can be used by children of all ability levels, allowing these resources to be seen as a highly valued asset to the school.

It is very common for our resources to be used by whole class groups, gifted and talented programs as well as a wide range of special education programs.
